OVERVIEW – Rationalize information, manage data, not feel overwhelmed by paper
The theme of the dematerialization of documents produced in the institutional field has been the core of a major initiative of reform and revision for some time. Particularly, the most innovative technologies aimed to permanently eliminate paper, have found large application with the introduction of Digital Amministration Code (e-government). Besides, progressive elimination of paper through computerization of processes, allows to simplify relationships among organizations, citizens and companies and represents one of the high priority objectives in the Digital Agenda 2020. Turning to digitalization and dematerialization of documents means to simplify the corporate structure, making it more efficient and competitive.

The most effective intervention focused on the best outcome of the dematerialization process is aimed to guarantee the authenticity of document and an univocal classification and it has been recently revised with the introduction of the new computerized registration procedure and related mandatory digital storage. Other interventions are the Certified e-Mail and Digital Signature.
On one hand, standards are adopted in order to avoid or reduce significantly the production of new paper documents; on the other hand, already-existing paper documents are removed and substituted with computerized records. The objective is directed to the retention of authenticity, integrity, readability, accessibility and confidentiality of computerized documents and has to be performed subsequently to their introduction in the digital archive.
